Facebook’s VPN – Onavo Protect is not quite as secure as you would like a VPN to be.
As announced by Will Strafach, CEO of the Sudo Security Group in his blog the app collects the following data:
- When the phone is turned on and off
- Amount of time the VPN is used
- Your Daily Wi-Fi data usage (even when the app is off)
- Your Daily cellular data usage (even when the app is off)
Although it is protecting you from eavesdropping on your data, it is also reporting details back to Facebook
“Guess what, if you’re not paying for the product, you and your data are the product,” says the privacy researcher known as That One Privacy Guy
